In the area of Agriculture, specifically in crop production, major crops grown in the municipality are rice, corn, banana and citrus covering an area of 4,404.542 hectares. Rice production alone occupies an area of 2,558 hectares and that is more than half of land devoted to crop production. Predominant farming technique being practiced by the farmers is the use of chemical inputs, however, presence of groups and organization practicing organic farming is now emerging.

Agricultural facilities that can be found mostly in strategic areas are Irrigation System, Farm-To-Market Road, Ricemill, Multi-Purpose Drying Pavement, Warehouse and BagsakanCenter. Presence of these structures helps improve agricultural production in the entire town. In fact, production of rice reaches to 11,870 metric tons in the year 2011 while other crops stretch to 5,739 metric tons in the same year. These produce are commonly transported and marketed to Manila and other neighbouring provinces to get higher prices.

In Fishery sector, there are 11,200 hectares existing fishing ground in the town which are spread out in five coastal barangays. Reported volume of production in the year 2011 is 19,271 tons. There are 108 registered motorized boats owned and used by 104 fishermen and 24 non-motorized boats owned and used by 24 fishermen.

As stated in above, total land area covered by crop production is 6980.116 hectares of which 2408 hectares is devoted to rice while the remaining area is planted with banana, corn, banana, citrus and others. In the year 2015, volume of rice production reaches to 28638 metric tons while other crops stretch to 6391 metric tons. These crops are commonly transported and marketed to Manila and other neighboring provinces to get higher prices.

Crops that are being grown in the municipality are rice, corn, banana, coconut and citrus. However, major crops that are being planted are rice, banana and corn. The total land area covered by agricultural land is 6980.116 which constitute 81.87% of the total land area of the town. Rice is planted to 2408 hectares while banana occupies only 381 hectares. From 2014 to 2015, volume of production has increased for both rice and banana. For rice only, there is an increase of production of 2,198.50 metric tons in 2015 compared with 2014. Likewise, an increase of 372 metric tons in banana production from the year 2014 to 2015 is also recorded.

The predominant farming technique being applied by the farmers is the use of chemical inputs to ensure better harvest. However, in some areas of the municipality, presence of groups and organization practicing organic farming is now taking shape and gradually getting support from other farmers.

LIVESTOCK AND POULTRY PRODUCTION

Livestock and poultry raising has become the source of living of the townspeople. As indicated in Table 57, local residents put investment on swine, goat, cattle, carabao, chicken and duck raisings. In terms of production, swine, chicken and duck raisings are in the top three. It is also evident in the data that these three types of poultry are the ones giving the highest amount of earnings.

FISHERIES AND AQUACULTURE

The municipality’s fishing ground covers the barangays of San Jose, Paclasan, Bagumbayan, San Isidro and Dangay. It has 17,256.06 hectares where local fishermen frequently catch fish to earn a living. In 2015, volume of production reaches to 29,271 tons with a peso value of 2,189,325.00. Most of the marine resources are being sold to local market. To protect the municipal water from encroachment of commercial vessels and other illegal fishing practices, the Municipal Government of Roxas with the cooperation of coastal barangays and fisherman’s organization, is conducting regular patrolling and monitoring of the area through its Patrol Boat. There are 113 registered motorized boats used by 1,750 fishermen and 10 non-motorized boats owned by 106 fishermen.
