Farmers Learn Climate Adaptive Soil Management Practices

Article by: Provincial Agriculturist's Office of Oriental Mindoro: ESanchez, REbora, Mariannell Ramos

Adverse effect of climate change is greatly felt by the province which was reflected on the damage caused by drought in the past few months. To provide farmers with knowledge and skills on drought adaptation and mitigation practices, the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office conducted a training on Climate Adaptive Soil Management Practices on May 30-31, 2019 at Vencio’s Garden Hotel and Restaurant, Calapan City. It was attended by 36 participants, composed of Agricultural Extension Workers (AEW), Local Farmer Technicians, and farmers.

Dr. Jose Nestor M. Garcia, Associate Professor I and Mr. Rene L. Limosinero, University Researcher, from College of Agriculture and Food Science, University of the Philippines served as resource persons of the said training. They discussed the following: soil, soil dynamics, soil physical and chemical properties, soil problems, climate change adaptation, improving soil fertility, basic agroforestry and soil conservation and management practices.

“Naaangkop sa panahon ang pagsasanay. Malaking kaalaman, talino, at kapakinabangan ito.’’, says one participant.
