This year's agricultural performance proved another facet of the relentless efforts of the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro (PGOM) through the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office (PAgO) towards achieving sustainable agri-fishery development in the midst of the Coronavirus-19 pandemic.

The hybrid rice derby showcased a 36-hectares hybrid rice technology demonstration located at Brgy. Alcadesma and Brgy. Proper Tiguisan, Bansud. More than 500 farmers, Agricultural Extension Workers, and other rice stakeholders attended the activity where they were able to observe the 23 different hybrid rice varieties planted in the demo area.
The Provincial Agriculturist’s Office has distributed agri-inputs and assorted planting materials to Indigenous People (IP) communities in Villa Cervesa, Victoria and San Vicente, Roxas.
A total of 2,448 bags of certified rice seeds of good eating quality were distributed by the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office to rice farmers coming from the different municipalities of Oriental Mindoro.
On March and April 2022, the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office underwent a provincewide survey, data collection and profiling of identified farmers and fisherfolks associations in every municipality of the province. In cooperation with the respective Municipal Agricultural Offices, PAGO was able to profile a total of 373 associations.
The Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro proposed a partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – MIMAROPA and the Mindoro State University (MINSU) to establish a Rice-based Product Innovation Center to promote rice-based product development to stir enterprise development.
During the first semester of 2022, PAGO-FCRM has conducted a biophysical assessment and monitoring of marine protected areas (MPA) in the province, and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign in coastal communities, and capacity building activity for the Bantay Dagat members.
PAGO initiated the establishment of a techno-demo production area of tissue-cultured banana of the lakatan variety. The demonstration-site will serve as a showcase of the advantages of using tissue-cultured planting materials as well as Good Agricultural Practices in banana production from which our banana farmers can learn and adopt.
In line with the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office continued effort to capacitate its farmers and keeping them updated with relevant agri-technologies, the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office conducted two (2) training activities that focuses on postharvest handling and integrated pest management.

On December 22, 2021 the Provincial Agriculturist’ Office distributed motorized fishing boats to fisherfolks from Calapan City. A total of 13 motorized fishing boats and five non-motorized fishing boats were distributed. On top of these, 198 sets of fishing gears, fishing nets and nylon were also distributed.
Farmer cooperatives and associations from the different municipalities of Oriental Mindoro received various farm machineries and equipment from the Department of Agriculture – Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (DA-PhilMech).
The Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro awarded a total P2,210,000.00 financial assistance to six farmer cooperatives and associations (FCAs) on November 26 and 27, 2021 during the Farmers’ Day.

During the 1st semester of 2021, PAgO started to implement virtual training activities for its farmers, agricultural extension workers (AEW), students, and other agriculture stakeholders.
A total of 1,716 bags of high-quality rice seeds were distributed by the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro to rice farmers throughout the province under the Rice Productivity Enhancement Program of the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office.

2021 marks the full operationalization of the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office Tissue Culture Laboratory located at the Provincial Demo Farm. With focus on banana micropropagation, the laboratory has so far produced more than 1,600 bottles of banana subcultures since it began actual operations in March 2021.
In line with the continued efforts of the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office to capacitate its farmers with limited face-to-face trainings, PAGO has conducted a series of virtual trainings to keep them abreast with the latest agricultural technologies and provide new information and learning in agriculture.
The Provincial Agriculturist’s Office achieved a significant milestone after it has successfully conducted its first virtual training for farmers and Agricultural Extension Workers. On May 25-27, 2021, PAgO conducted the virtual training on Postharvest Handling of High Value Commercial Crops via Zoom application.
