The Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro through the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office facilitated a 3-day workshop on Integrated Coastal Management Plan for the municipalities of Pola and Pinamalayan on May 8-10, 2019 at Feraren Hills Resort, Calapan City. An Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) Plan is an important document that will help guide local government actions for a more effective management of coastal resources.
The workshop was attended by key officers and representatives of the LGUs of Pola and Pinamalayan, including the Municipal Agriculture Officer and their Coastal Resource Management Officers, designated Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officers, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer and the Municipal Planning and Development Office Coordinators.
Ms. Rhodora Cheryl Montoya, PAgO consultant on ICM Planning, assisted the office in facilitating the activity. The planning activity follows the “ecosystem approach to fisheries management” and “ridge to reef” approach as the basis on the formulation of the LGU’s respective ICM Plan. These approaches are expected to result in the development of coastal resource that is sustainable while continually providing livelihood, eco-tourism and other socio-economic activities for the local population.
