Small-scale fishermen of Sta. Cruz, Naujan received gill nets from the Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro through the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office in an effort to improve the fishery sector of the locality. A total of 40 recipients were awarded with the fishing gears on June 6, 2019 with Ms. Marilyn M. Alcañices, PAgO – Fishery and Coastal Resource Management Division Chief and Brgy. Captain Lemuel G. Romualdez of Sta. Cruz, Naujan leading the distribution.
The surface gill nets, which the locals call largarete is the most common fishing method used by fishermen of this coastal barangay. The daily fish catch of the beneficiaries will be recorded to include in the fishery production data being gathered by this office through the respective Fishery Extension Workers of each municipalities.
