The Provincial Government of Oriental Mindoro engaged farmers from the 1st and 2nd District of the province for a 2-day Farmers’ Day activity held on November 26, 2021 at Mindoro State University – Bongabong Campus and on November 27, 2021 at the Bulwagang Panlalawigan, Calapan City. Organized by the Provincial Agriculturist’s Office it was by far the biggest intervention for the farmers held in a single day where a total of 19.92 million pesos worth of agricultural equipment, seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs were distributed to more than 600 farmer associations from every municipality of the province.
In his message Governor Humerlito “Bonz” Dolor recognizes the significant contributions of the farmers especially during the earlier part of the COVID-19 pandemic when hunger threatens most of the country’s population due to scarcity and limited movement of food supplies. He emphasized that it was the local farmers who ensured that food is available for the Mindoreños during those periods.
Among the interventions distributed were combine harvester, 4 units of hand tractors, 39 units of pumps and engines, 10 units of power sprayers and 11 units of compact tillers. Farm tools and implements such as knapsack sprayers, sprinklers, shovels, rakes, hand trowels, hand forks, seedling trays and plastic trays were also received by every farmer association. Furthermore, assorted vegetables seeds, various planting materials, corn seeds, organic and inorganic fertilizers were also distributed.
Meanwhile, six qualified Farmer Associations were provided with financial assistance amounting to P2,210,000.00 which will be used for the development of their respective livelihood enterprises. In all, there were 364 farmer associations from the 1st District and 301 FAs from the 2nd district for a total of 665 FAs who has benefitted during the Farmers’ Day.
